Society today is way too reliant on technology such as computers and especially phones. With these technological breakthroughs, companies now have a new way of advertising that is probably the most affective way today. Everywhere you go there are advertisements: football games, cinemas, train stations, posts on instagram, it makes you think "are there too many ads in this world?"
Ads appear literally everywhere now a days, the companies behind them probably payed next to nothing just to put there product on their screen for a few seconds. It is like the world has resulted into a Blade Runner dystopian city where ads are plasted on every corner of a building and show no remorse on leaving you alone. Cities like Tokyo, London, New York City, Los Angeles, etc. all used to have their own unique distinct look and personality. Now if you were to compare every one of them, they all look the exact same. Coca Cola, McDonald's, Amazon, THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!! Unfortunately they definetley wont be slowing down any time soon, as the advertisments rake in billions for these companies every year.
At this point in time companies arent trying to limit their ads to the general public, instead they're trying to fuel them with as many ads as they can. In 2020, KFC increased there marketing budget by 22% in a single year. That is just one small example, but that doesnt even come close to what Google are trying to develop as we speak. When an ad pops up on your phone, you have to wait for an x to pop up so you can skip that ad. During that time you can nogt pay attention too it; let your eyes wonder. Google on the other hand are developing a technology that forces you to watch the ad. They do this by making the ad paused if your eyes arent looking at the screen. THAT IS TORTURE. Google have been slowly turning us into depressed sociopaths for years now and if they were to succeed with this, then it would be a huge step in the wrong direction.
Luckily there are Companies that somehow get by by not doing advertisment whatsoever and selling their product via word of mouth. This is exactly what Elon Musk's Tesla is like and as a result the company has saved Billions of Dollars by not advertising and instead using their money to improve their cars. Doing this would actually be a life saver for some people, instead of making us watch a makeup pallet ad that we will never buy.
