The cover of this specific issue of The Guardian was published on the thirtieth of April last year so is therefore post Sue Gray report.
On the footer of the page we see a quote from the Guardian editorial team with calls that "The PM and Chancellor should pay a price beyond their fines" This box reveals the lying ideology of the paper which is a left-leaning, Labour supporting paper.
The title of the paper is a fake quote from the Prime Minister. The use of personal pronouns make Johnson seem self aware. It could also be used to reinforce the stereotype which is often used for politicians that they are corrupt and 'Out of touch'. Here it is clear that Johnson is out of touch as he recognises he has done wrong but still fails to take the consequence.
However, The Guardian chooses to focus not just on the Prime Minister, but also his wife and the Chancellor Rishi Sunak. This could suggest that The Guardian see this issue not as one mans failings but as a systemic issue within government.
The copy in the footer "My husband died of COVID and we all obeyed the rules No 10 flouted". This comment is extremely emotive though the talks of sacrifice and the language used to describe not just the Prime Minister but the whole of Number 10 Downing Street. Here The Guardian highlights the discontent that the British public have to the corruption of Number 10 and the Prime Minister.
The image is quite damning too. It seems as it is a 'paparazzi shot' in a way. Like the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have been caught in the act. The anchorage talks about the pair receiving a fixed penalty notice so therefore the image could try to capture or mimic them walking out after receiving the fine which could signify a sense of guilt between the pair.
