although major changes have taken place in regards to laws and norms regarding the issue of same sex marriage and the rights that LGBTQ+ people have around the world, some public opinions on the acceptance of homosexuality in society remains up in the air in some countries.
Homophobia encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. in short, homophobia is defined as a hatred or prejudice towards people who are attracted to the same gender.
in some countries, being gay, or liking someone of the same gender as you, was and still is considered a crime. some people believe that is a choice and people can just change their mind. in worse cases, people have been sentenced to death due to their attraction.
negative connotations surround gays everywhere. for example within modern family, cam, the husband of mitchell, is represented as flamboyant and over the top when crying and frailing his arms around. this is a stereotype that has surrounded gays as over the top and dramatic. in 2021, gay people are still represented like this within american film and tv show productions. in my opinion this is disrespectful as it is the same as reorienting someone of a different religion as a terrorist, more people would be offended by that rather than the gay stereotype. why?
