The paper is a broardsheet. This edition features no no details within the masthead. This only features the papers title. The font implies some sort of upper class connotations. It makes the paper seem more official. The black font makes it seem formal and encourages the reader to pick up for proper news without the excess of a tabloid or red top. The name “the telegraph” suggests that the paper is telegraphing the truth to its readers. It’s placement is also odd since it is not at the top. The headline is shown to be at the top since the editors want you to focus on that. The headline it’s self is simply “BREXIT DAY”. This is meant to clearly inform us what is happening and make the reader feel patriotic. BREXIT is finally happening after 3 years of dither and delay so we should be proud. The lack of info on the specifics make it clear that it’s hiding something, such as how the trade deal will take another year at least to finalise, however Brexit in name only simply does not forfil Boris Johnson's promise to get BREXIT done. The paper is clearly there to forfill that or at least give the apreance of forfilling the promise. The block capital font of the text make it clear that this is important. All of this is quite immoral since it uses xenophobia to sell papers. The main image of prime minister Boris Johnson creates a reasuring pressance, he looks cool, calm and satisfied with his efforts to get BREXIT done. Johnson’s quote “ This is not the end, but a new beginning” is there to reassure sceptics who may be against BREXIT. This also is intended to seem patriotic and overshadow the issues with leaving the world’s largest trading block. The overall layout of the page is mainly based around images and headlines. The lack of text ensures that it’s easy to digest info and prevents the audiance from straying too far from the intended pro BREXIT narrative since meaning is easier to control with visual imagery than it is via text. The only major story on the page is Brexit, this essures that BREXIT remains on the minds of the public and that they thank the current government for getting it done. The paper clearly has a right wing pro conservative agenda. The advertisment at the bottom is a clear example of its capitalist leanings,. Taking up 1/5th of the paper.
