Thomas - Magazine Research #13 - PRIMA

Magazine:

PRIMA

Publisher:

Prima Press

Genre:

Women

Genre Conventions:

This edition of Prima shows many of the conventions you would expect of a magazine of this genre. It uses taglines just like the other magazines and the use of adjectives to make short and snappy taglines to intrigue the audience like 'classy party outfits', 'glamour make-up' and 'miraculous undies'. Has Holly Willoughby who is a household name to make the reader more likely to read/buy it as they'll be interested to know what she has to say, this is an enigma code. Having 'EXCLUSIVE' on the cover to make the audience feel as though they are getting the latest gossip and are up to date.

Settings/Locations:

There is no location or setting with it having a purple background so Holly's white dress pops out against it.

Representations:

Isn't any certain representations shown on the cover.

Media Language:

Uses personal pronouns to make it seem as though they are talking directly to the reader and addressing them directly for example when it says 'YOU look amazing' or 'smooth YOUR curves' These are also designed to boost the readers confidence. Her white dress goes along with the theme and the time of the year as it as January issue so goes along with the winter and Christmas theme as it would've been released before Christmas. Taglines are used to inform the reader of the contents of the magazine. Holly is the only celebrity featured on this cover and having her take up the majority of the cover shows that she is the centre of attention and is the main focus. Having a celebrity on the cover also gives it a seal of quality as though that the fact that she is part of it having had a photoshoot and interview with the magazine.

Appeals to the target audience:

Readers reading this magazine may feel as though they are able to stay relevant due to reading it and as though that it can improve their lives and they can use it as a guide.
