Women in Advertising


The use of sexualisation and eye catching pictures in ads is frequent and women are portrayed as sexual objects to catch the attention of men and women alike, even though the ad with explicit imagery is unneeded. This advert by American Appeal reinforces these ideas as the ad is very minimalistic and shows the product and then contrasts with a picture of a woman next to it who appears to be fully topless and may have the tights on and the picture cuts off at the mid-chest area. In the explicit looking picture, it is sexualised from the angle it is taken as well as the expression the women is making is sexualised by the advertiser.
