The 2014 Sainsbury's Christmas advert '1914' was viewed millions of times making it one of Sainsbury's most successful adverts. It was made in partnership with The Royal British Legion which was significant as it seemed like Sainsbury's were using the war to sell food so by working together they were able to create more then that and it was dealt with respectfully and authentically. For every chocolate bar that they were promoting in the ad bought they would donate all the profits made. It featured the British and German soldiers coming together for Christmas by swapping gifts and playing football. The advert shows the soldiers singing and laughing together, just overall looking very happy.
The main ideology of the advert which is said at the end is that 'Christmas is for sharing'. Christmas is a time where families and friends come together and the first world war was a very important part in history and showing the soldiers swapping treats they wanted to encourage people to share a memorable Christmas with people. This message would have been important in making this as successful and memorable as it is.
