Christmas adverts are a new feature of the 21st century in the media with seemingly almost every big corporation producing a christmas advert to get people into the festive spirit. One of the most well known companies to do this is John Lewis. John Lewis have produced many touching adverts over the span of 15 years, as many people wait in anticipation for the annual John Lewis christmas advert. However, one of the most iconic christmas adverts doesn't involve John Lewis it includes a carrot.
Family favourite christmas advert produced by Aldi includes the character of Kevin the Carrot. The campaign involving the carrot began in 2016 and since then he has been on plenty of adventures. One of the most successful and memorable advert being their 2021 christmas advert. The advert famously followed the story "A christmas Carol" Charlee Dickens, this would give the audiences a sense of familiarity to the story and Aldi's fun twist of the story brings an element of comedy to it and shows that they do not take themselves too seriously. Furthermore, in the advert footballer Marcus Rashford makes a brief appearance comically know as "Marcus Raddishford". The use of this breif appereance reinforces an ideological message due to Rashford being known for his work off of the pitch campaigning to end child food poverty and support vulnerable families, this means that Aldi are in support of what Rashford does to help people across Britiain. This makes the advert more memorable to people as it isn't very often you see a giant figure like Marcus Rashford in a christmas advert.
Although the advert may not seem that it has an ideological message behind it, it definitely does. The advert has a sense of togetherness, especially around Christmas which is a time where people come together. This is a common theme for christmas adverts to have an ideological message and this advert definitely follows this.
