Come Fly With Me

Come Fly with Me is a British mockumentary television comedy series set in a busy airport and on the departing and arriving flights, featuring characters played by Matt Lucas and David Walliams.


The target audience for this product is supposed to be a large demographic for those above the age of 15 while also catering for older generations


The show was taken off Netflix and other streaming platforms in 2020 for it's use of blackface, The blackface used for 2

characters (Precious Little and Taaj Manzoor) was played by Matt Lucas and although the representations were for comedic purposes, people felt there was a racial undertone to it.


The show pokes fun at the many different characters, including the racist and bigoted chief immigration officer Ian Foot, who is played by Walliams. This character is made not to agree with but to laugh at, although some may have the same views as him, he is simply an outrageous character who you are made to despise.


The psychographic Target audience can be seen as a wide spectrum with it fitting into not only the explorer, which responds to brands that offer new sensations, indulgence and instant effects. Or Aspirer, as they are driven by others’ perceptions of them rather than by their own values, which would cause them to watch the show in order not to miss out of conversations. This is also the reason for the Mainstreamer.


But those who succeeded in getting the show taken of streaming platforms are the succeeder, Because they tend to occupy positions of responsibility in society.

negotiated response: the show provided much entertainment and laughs, however, whilst i understand that the show was mocking the extremist views that many people shared and satirising black face, it is understandable why viewers would take offence to many of these characters. The idea of a white man wearing black face, even in the context of satire, still reminds many of the dark and gritty connotations in terms of historical context where black minorities where dehumanised and their rights invalidated. Additionally, recurring gag in the show was the workplace manager sexually assaulting his subordinates. Sexual assault both in and out of the workplace is a highly tough issue that women have simply had to 'get on with,' and it is…
