Updated: Nov 12, 2020

in the set text the article 'letter to my younger self" supports David gauntletts theory that celebrities become role models for audiences because of the way they are portrayed in the media. in the article grayson Perry tells his struggles about his childhood and growing up to the present day. the article can draw audiences from a number of different walks of life and many people can relate to his story. issues in the article might include homosexuality, family life and fatherhood, indentity issues, mental health and living in a single parent household. people might idolise Grayson Perry because of the issues he has faced in his life. David Gauntletts theory describes how media provides us with the means to construct our identities. and the idea that some of the celebrities in the media become role models for an audence based on what the media says about them. in this instance a role model is not someone who the audience wants to be, but someone with whom they may share ideas or an ideological outlook. the audience might relate to the celebrity based on how they are portrayed through the media. this might not be real life.
