"Happy Place" | Podcast Review

The podcast that I have chosen to review is Happy Place. It is presented by television and radio presenter Fearne Cotton and has been airing since the beginning of October 2018. It is a podcast that I listen to regularly and enjoy a lot. During every episode, Fearne sits down with a public figure in a conversational style setting and talks about what happiness means to them. As per the podcast's biography, guests talk about life, love, loss, and everything in-between.

The specific episode discussed in this blog post features guest, Davina McCall. Although most of the episodes of this show are recording in the homes of the guests or in Fearne's studio, this one in particular was recorded at the first ever "Happy Place Live" event. In the episode Davina and Fearne discuss topics that are close to Davina's heart such as health, fitness and her past struggles with addiction. The episode is full of lighthearted anecdotes and funny stories however also includes deep, emotional conversation about Davina's recovery, self-love and feeling good in your own skin.

As mentioned above, the guests in the podcast are mostly all in the public eye and range from online influencers such as Zoe Sugg, to musicians such as Gary Barlow. The reason why these guests are chosen is because they have a story to share, not only to do with their careers but their personal lives, also. They are raw and relatable and willing to share their stories with listeners. I think the fact that podcasts are audio only allows the guests to open up more. Fearne, in my opinion, is the perfect host for a podcast of this nature as she presents herself as a comforting, genuine human being who comes across as understanding and non-judgemental. Moreover, her working class background and how she has transformed her life and become such as successful philanthropist definitely fits with the nature of the project.

This podcast appeals to absolutely everyone. A listener of this show does not need to be interested in any particular subject like gaming, true crime or cooking - anybody can listen and enjoy it. Personally, I don't even think that it is important to have prior knowledge of the person, it is actually so refreshing to learn about a new person and what life means to them. The podcast is a very inspirational listen which I thoroughly enjoy sitting down and listening to. It offers so much to the listener and allows the audience to put life in to perspective and learn about others struggles, values and general tips on how to live a more productive and better life. I would highly recommend everyone to give this podcast a listen.
