Infinity War Poster: Audience

Avengers: Infinity War was a global hit, a phenomenon only rivaled by the films follow up, it brought in a range of audiences yet it's still safe to assume this poster was targeted towards young adults to children, further backed up by the films PG-13 age rating as anyone can watch it with parental guidance.

The poster incorporates a wide range of color including blues, oranges and reds meeting in the center of the poster creating a tint of purple, it attracts the eye, especially for a younger audience. It's safe assume the poster understands its audience, as while not being one of the most important characters of the MCU, Spider-Man is the most famous and most popular among children and most relatable to most teens and in this poster he is in the very front and in the foreground even avoiding the slight light pollution that leaks onto the bottom of the characters, he is the only character whose body we see in full making him stand out in the poster yet his size on it is so small to indicate that he is not the most important character of the film, while tony stark and Thanos are represented as being vital to the story by their prominence on the poster, both being the largest and in the center.

The young adults and teen side of the audience this is being aimed at possibly comes from a place external to the poster, a lot of teens and young adults grew up with these movies over the last decade but the poster itself creates a feeling of nostalgia by using the wide range of characters we have met on the way of this 10-year long journey, for some revisiting these characters (few of them who had not been in a film for years) is like visiting an old friend to catch up.

The purpose film itself could be said to be escapism and entertainment, although we may relate to the human side of some of the characters e.g. Spider-Man for children and young adults as he is the youngest of all the Avengers and he goes through the same things as many of them (school troubles, bullying, money problems etc.) in this film however, none of that side of Peter Parker is highlighted, having more action heavy scenes which are more affective at creating the feeling of escapism and certainly entertainment. The purpose of the poster may be said to have the same effect as the colors and how they interact with their surroundings have vague resemblance to a kaleidoscope, allowing an easy gaze for the viewer and although it is not so “entertaining” it is interesting to say the least and hardcore fans may find themselves lost in the poster, dissecting what it has to offer, meanwhile children may appreciate it for its burst of color and life.
