A Boogie - Jungle
This music video contains some conventions of a performance video as it is in a setting which reflects the lyrics of the song for example when the artist says "this is what that jungle do" , at the same time the artist is in the woods surrounded by people with monkey masks o their face. The artist also does lip synchs with the lyrics in the video for every scene in which he is in part from one or two scenes where he is acting out something. This is done to give the audience a sense of intimacy , you could say this as the way the artist looks at the camera is almost as if he's looking at you and his body language when doing this suggest he's talking to you - the audience.
Though there were some conventions a performance video most of the video contained conventions of a narrative video. It would be safe to say that the music video could be described as being a short film, the video goes as far as to contain a short cut scene at the start to set the story and narrative of the song. The video itself is based around the theme of betrayal and what the artist perceives to be the correct retribution for betrayal. This is suggested by both the lyrics and video as the artist tries to interpret, lyrics such as "I should've never even trusted you... you was plotting n***a wasn't you" implying that he had been betrayed by someone he had once trusted.
The video also uses stereotypes as a shortcut to meaning its uses black people holding guns and wearing masks in order to portray the gang violence of America doing this helps the audience understand what kind of video they are immersing themselves in.
In conclusion the music video although it looks simple at first glance it actually provides quite a compelling story though the them is generic. This video tells a story maybe telling the audience of the artists background or portraying what happens from the type of background he's from in a sense speaking for others who may not have a voice.
