Noid - Tyler the Creator

Media Bloggers

Noid by Tyler the Creator is the third track and lead single off of his latest 2024 album Chromakopia. The albums narrative is centered around Tyler’s midlife crisis about the conflict of settling down versus continuing to make music. The song Noid, fits into this narrative by showing Tyler’s fears of being betrayed or endangered by those around him. This is shown in the opening shot where he is walking through a crowd

He is immediately set out apart from everyone else, one for his unconventional hairstyle and mask but also he is walking against the direction of the crowd. This may represent how he feels unique but also isolated in the world and how when he goes against the grain, not only is their difficulty but people will dislike him for challenging norms. It may also show his paranoia and how he feels like everyone is judging him.

One of the following scenes features a fan holding a phone and asking him to take a picture. Slow motion and frequent cuts are used to create an uncanny disorienting feeling. The fan erratically waves their phone around, which in some shots has been replaced with a gun. This shows how Tyler perceives fan interactions, where he can see them as potentially being a danger to himself, especially from fans who won’t leave him alone and take no for an answer. He feels like he is being taken hostage.

In this scene, we see Tyler driving home in a White Ferrari, potentially a reference to the song performed by Frank Ocean off his album Blonde. Frank Ocean is a frequent collaborator and close friend to Tyler. With Cromakopia coincidentally being released on his birthday. The shot resembles the driving scenes in vertigo, which narrative also surrounds obsession and stalking. Therefore it tells us that he feels like he is being watched without his knowledge.
