The media representation of the transgender community has always been an... interesting one to say the least. You could either have a celebrity voicing their support for trans people or JK Rowling's Twitter feed. The trans debate is still ongoing today and, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be dying down anytime soon. There are, of course, good representations but they are very much outweighed by bad.
The news has been after trans people, especially trans women, for a long time. Titles always include something along the lines of "Trans-identified men" and usually describe them as being men trying to get into women's spaces. This article, for example, is implying that trans women are men trying to impose on women's wards in the NHS. A favourite is, of course, the women's bathrooms (which they don't realise can just be walked into by a cisgender man).
