The Big Issue- Bell Hooks Representations

Throughout the set text for The Big Issue, there are many codes that both support and maybe go against Bell Hooks's ideas regarding feminism and representations of gender and race. Bell Hook's believes that the idea feminism is a struggle to end patriarchal oppression and the idea that race as well as sex determine the extent which individual are oppressed.



In the set text, there is an article predominantly about gender, Grayson Perry's 'Letter to my Younger Self'. The article is written by Perry and discusses many things regarding his younger life that have helped shape his life including the fact that he is a transvestite. This type of representation is seen as rare in today's media. This displays The Big Issues stance as being more alternative in its content and style. In the article
