In the Big Issue, there is representation of men and women. Lisbet Van Zoonen believes that women in media are objectified. However, the Big Issue is a very progressive magazine that discusses current social issues, and it is evident their representations of men and women are balanced. Men and women are equal in this magazine the representations do not rely on stereotypes.
This is unsurprising as this reflects some of this magazine's ideologies. They have left wing views and report and hope to fight changes such as poverty, global warming and many more.
They also represent different ethnic groups such as a black female who are definitely a minority especially when being represented in mainstream media.
However, despite the representations of these women not being stereotyped there is a dominance of men represented in the magazine over women, with a lot more men featured in this magazine. This could be seen as defeating the object of representing equally as the lack of women in the magazine means the magazines centers itself around men, perhaps putting them of more importance over women.
