If The Buggles were correct and video did, in fact, kill the radio star then we can probably count talk radio, radio documentaries and radio dramas as collateral damage as YouTube stamps all over the grave of radio making sure that it is dead.

 

However, in this over extended metaphor, the podcast plays the role of a young Victor Frankenstein bringing all the pieces of radio back together and reanimating them to form an unspeakable, powerful monster. Something with its own mind and own identity - fascinating, enthralling and unstoppable!

In other words, podcasts have become really quite popular over the past few years and like YouTube (its murderous cousin), it has spawned a whole generation of amateur content providers who speak on a limitless array of topics; sports, music, film, current affairs, psychology and old fashioned talk shows being amongst the most popular genres.
