Increasingly, Xmas advertising is becoming more 'worthy' - is having a 'good cause' the key to making a successful festive advert?

 

Forget advent calendars and Elf memes on Facebook, the real way you know that Christmas is on its way is when the big companies tell us it is by revealing their ever so exclusive 'Christmas Ads'.

Whilst it seems that the unveiling of John Lewis' offering is met with the kind of anticipation usually reserved for discovering the winner of Strictly, some will tell you that the Coca-Cola lorry is the real thing!

Either way Xmas ads have become part of the festive season and an integral part of most companies marketing budget for the year - but which ones do we remember and more importantly, why?

Traditional ad techniques such as using celebrities seems to have been replaced by using animations & whimsical characters. But do they share the same ideologies? Is the best way of selling Christmas through the message rather than the produce?
